Sterilization and Algae Control in a Large Industrial Circulating Cooling Water System
Challenge: During the hot summer months, the system experiences severe algae and bacterial growth, resulting in reduced heat exchange efficiency and equipment corrosion. Previously, non-oxidizing biocides were used, which were costly and prone to developing bioresistance.
Solution: Utilizing a "periodic surge dosing" approach, calcium hypochlorite solution was added to the circulating water twice weekly to temporarily raise the residual chlorine level to 0.8-1.0 mg/L, with daily low-dose maintenance.


Results:
Efficient Control: The strong oxidizing properties effectively removed biosludge and algae, restoring heat exchange efficiency.
Cost Reduction: As an oxidizing biocide, its cost is significantly lower than dedicated non-oxidizing biocides.
No Resistance: The physical killing mechanism ensures that microorganisms will not develop resistance.
